Summer Scarves…a soliliquy by my assistant Jenna Firshein
When to “Summer Scarf” by Jenna Firshein
As a devoted follower of fashion, I try to make my own style mesh with the trends of now. However, the “Summer Scarf” trend, which fashionistas everywhere have taken up, is said to be “on trend”. This however is a fallacy, for we have blindly decided to ignore those in Europe who have been wearing scarves no matter what the weather years before this summer. I’ve been wearing scarves (summer or otherwise) everyday since 2002. When I studies abroad, I wore scarves everyday and once in England and bought a Keffiyeh, I was hooked and wore it during the rest of my “vacation” in Europe. So for me, the peak of my “summer scarf” wearing was in the summer of 2007, last year.
A breif history of the summer scarf: The Florentines (of Florence Italy), believe that an exposed neck can lead to a cold so they wear scarves and turtlenecks well into the summer months (Note: that while Italy does not get as hot as in here, they still wear their scarves in 80 ̊weather.) In England, scarves are a staple of a person’s wardrobe, whether they are Cambridge style, Keffiyeh (Arab scarves), or whatever.
So please, this season, when wearing your summer scarf, do it in moderation and not with every outfit.

Please help Urban Outfitters get rid of their summer scarves - it’s sad how may they have in stock
